سه مشکل عمده ای که به خاطر کیفیت آب بویلر بوجود می آید عبارتند از :nnالف- مشکل رسوب گرفتگیnnب- مشکل خورندگیnnج- مشکل حمل قطرات بویلر توسط بخارnnبرای رفع یا کنترل سه مشکل فوق الذکر از سه روش اساسی زیر استفاده می کنند (به ترتیب اولویت) .nn1. تصفیه خارجی : ناخالصی ها چون املاح سختی آور، سیلیکا و گازها را بایستی حذف نمود.nn2. تصفیه داخلی : با تزریق مواد شیمیایی مناسب به آب تغذیه بویلر و نیز تصحیحاتً مکانیکی مشکلات احتمالی را تحت کنترل در می آوریم.nn3. با خارج کردن قسمتی از آب تغلیظ شده بویلر و جانشن نمودن آب ترمیمی شدت تغلیظ شدن ناخالصی های آب بویلر را کنترل می کنیم . هر چند که استفاده از رزینهای تعویض یونی برای تهیه آب تغذیه بویلر امری اجتناب ناپذیر است اما در سالهای اخیر بکارگیری سیکل ترکیبی اسمز معکوس و رزین های یونی متداول شده است .n
